1991 Club Pro Set Prototypes

Description:  Club Pro Set, like all the other parent company products, had prototype cards, or in this case, "Review" cards, to gain opinions and ideas on how to proceed with production.  As of now, there are FOUR known prototype cards.  The fronts feature full-bleed photos with a black bar encapsulating the set name somewhere towards the bottom.  The Club Pro Set logo is placed on the left of the bar, but is larger than the one used in production.  Here are the only scans of these cards I have ever seen!

The backs are not what we are used to seeing!  And notice there are no level designations!


The bottom right side reads "For Review Only" and has 1991 Pro Set Inc. as the copyright.

Note:  These four cards are confirmed by their scans.  Could there be more...?  Maybe (see Club Pro Set Timeline)!

Additional Information:  Actual color pictures were used on the back of the prototype cards.  This was not the case on the final product.  The text on the back is surrounded by a colored trapezium – a quadrilateral (four-sided figure) with no parallel sides.  Also, the Club Pro Set logo is much larger than those used on the base set.  What was kept from the back of these cards were the colors used and the trapezium text border.  Not much else seems to have made it into final production. These are a great example of the process cards go through before being approved for printing!
